OSTEOPOROSIS EXERCISE AND EDUCATION CLASSES

Do you suffer from Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a process of weakening of your bones. Statistically one in every two women and one in every four men over the age of 50 is likely to break a bone due to Osteoporosis. Prevention is better than cure. It is NEVER too late to start exercising to help improve your bone strength and balance.

Come and join our classes to learn more about Osteoporosis and how diet and exercise can strengthen your bones. The exercises are based on progressive resistance, which is known to assist in the maintenance of bone density. We also have exercises for balance and posture.

Before commencing classes we do a short consultation/assessment at the Practice. This enables us to record benefits gained from the programme. If you have had a DEXA Scan to measure your bone density please bring this to your initial assessment. We can then keep track of any changes in bone density over time. We ask that you complete some forms that will assist us in determining your suitability for exercise. If you are interested in attending please click here for important information and forms for completion prior to attending classes.

The cost for the short consultation/assessment is $45.00 (which includes the first exercise session) and the exercise only session is $15.00 per participant. Some health funds will pay a benefit if you have cover for physiotherapy.

Classes are run by Maureen on Monday afternoons from 2.00pm to 3.00pm and Thursday mornings from 10.30am to 11.30am in the Griffith Library Community Room, Blaxland Crescent, Griffith.

Please wear comfortable clothes and flat enclosed shoes.

PILATES MAT CLASSES

The aim of the Pilates Classes is to increase abdominal and back strength, and to improve posture. The exercises are based around a series of movements done on a mat on the floor and these are progressed as the individual improves. We always finish the exercise classes with stretches.

Some health funds will pay a benefit if you have cover for physiotherapy.

Please wear comfortable clothes and bring an exercise mat and a towel.
